The Legacy Box and the Meaning of an Innovative Graduate Program
Master of Arts in Environmental Education and Communication at Royal Roads University
A program is born…
“We’re good scientists, but we’re not good communicators.”
This is what Simon Fraser University’s Dr. Milt McClaren repeatedly heard from the world’s top global change scientists during the ground-breaking meetings of the Aspen Global Change Institute in the 1990s.
McClaren convinced decision-makers at British Columbia’s Royal Roads University, newly founded in 1995, to consider a transdisciplinary Masters of Arts program that focused on both environmental education and environmental communication.
Together with Dr. Richard Kool, a plan was developed and approved by the BC Ministry of Advanced Education in November 2002.
The MA in Environmental Education and Communication (MAEEC) program at Royal Roads University was launched in January 2003.
